Frequently Asked Questions

How often can I meet with a Language Tutor?

You can book up to seven (7) appointments a week, and up to three (3) appointments per day with a conversation partner. If you make more than one appointment on the same day, they must be with different members of our staff and for different focuses. We offer both in-person and virtual sessions (on Zoom).

What should I bring to my Language Tutoring sessions?

You do not need to bring anything if you just want to chat. However, some students bring in discussion questions they’d like to talk about, assignments or activities, or vocabulary and slang they have questions about. If you are practicing a presentation, we recommend bringing a digital or printed copy of your slides with you. If you’re looking for help with reading comprehension, test prep, or grammar exercises, it’s helpful to bring in the readings from class or the textbook you are using, if applicable.

How can I let my professor (or advisor) know I came for Language Tutoring session? Do you have records of my previous Language Tutoring sessions?

We keep detailed reports on every Language Tutoring session. After each session, you'll receive a session summary via email. You can share that summary with your professor (or advisor) as verification of your session.

Do I need to be enrolled in a language course in order to make an appointment?

No, you do not have to be enrolled in a language course in order to make an appointment. You must have some base knowledge in the target foreign language. Beyond that, you may be in between coursework, preparing for study abroad or an internship, finished with your coursework in the language, studying on your own, etc.

Can my friend(s) and I come to a Language Tutoring session together?

Yes, conversation partners/language tutors can work with up to two students at a time. However, to have a group session, you must contact Chloe Huh Prudente or attend our weekly Language Tables; we cannot accommodate groups in our shorter sessions (20-25 mins).

I am a Temple student, but I don’t take classes on Main Campus. Can I still get support?

Yes, our services are available online and accessible to all Temple students regardless of campus.

Do you offer support for faculty (or post-doctoral fellows, or university staff members) who are language learners?

Faculty or staff who are currently enrolled in Temple courses can make an appointment with a language tutor. If you are interested in language learning and looking for reccomendations about how to proceed, or if you have questions, please contact .

I’d like to become a Language Tutor. How do I do that? I would like to volunteer, do you accept volunteers?

See our Employment page for more information about volunteer and paid language tutoring positions.

I would like to see the same conversation partner/language tutor every week. Is this possible?

Yes, you can do this in two ways. You can make an appointment yourself with the same tutor every week if you’d like. If you think you need even more support, you can request a standing appointment. Talk to a conversation partner/language tutor, and they will put you in touch with us to learn more. Email Chloe Huh Prudente at or call us at 215-204-0705.
